Zac Posen's documentary shows fashion's dark side

Zac Posen wants the world to know his life is not all about beautiful dresses and fancy parties.

Next month, the American designer is set to premiere his documentary, "House of Z," to show both the good and bad sides of the fashion business. He debuted the film, which is directed by Sandy Chronopoulos, at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year.

"Fashion has a dark side - it's not all runways and lipstick and fishtail gowns," he told Vogue. "I think if you are going to make a movie, especially today about the creative process and media, you have to be honest. I wasn't interested in throwing myself into a puff piece."

Posen was the boy wonder of the fashion world when he emerged at age 21 in 2001. He started with an atelier in his parents' living room. The young designer quickly captured the spotlight for his breathtakingly beautiful gowns and evening wear, and he became a celebrity favorite on the red carpet.

By 2004, Sean Combs was an investor in his business. Posen did a line for Target and also received awards by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

According to Vogue.com, the film chronicles Posen's life from being a NYFW wunderkind to today, with all the bumps along the way. Posen's friends and collaborators like Claire Danes, Sean Combs, Naomi Campbell, and Paz de la Huerta make appearances, as do editors and critics like Nicole Phelps and André Leon Talley.
