Several more stars join cast of Woody

false

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the story reportedly takes place in the 1960s and filming began earlier this month in New York. The cast already includes singer-slash-actress Miley Cyrus, in addition to Elaine May, who last appeared in Allen’s 2000 film Small Time Crooks; John Magaro, who co-starred in 2012’s Not Fade Away; and Rachel Brosnahan, one of the stars of Netflix’s House of Cards. Allen himself will appear in the series as well, on top of serving as creator, writer, and director.

. Although the filmmaker’s long career has been filled with commercial and critical success, his involvement in TV has been relatively limited. As such, he has been open about the challenges the new format has posed, even joking in the past that Amazon Studios may come to regret their decision to work with him on it.

For its part, the studio doesn’t appear to be exhibiting signs of buyer’s remorse. In fact, Amazon Studios acquired North American rights to Allen’s latest film project in February. The untitled project is a romantic comedy featuring an ensemble cast composed of Steve Carell, Blake Lively, and Kristen Stewart, among others.

How To Dress ‘Cute Sexy’ Like Taylor Swift

2016年03月16日

Taylor-Swift-Style

on THE CLOSETMar 15, 2016

11:31amLIKE US ON FACEBOOK

When Taylor Swift first made it big, I remember falling head-over-heels in love with her style before falling in love with her music.

Yes, eventually I did fall in love with her SWIFT tunes, but there was just something about the Taylor Swift style that really stood out. It was prim. It was “proper.” It was so simple, and yet it spoke volumes.

At the time, she was one of the only pop stars not marketed as half-naked. Kesha was sexy in all her bad-girl glory. So was Queen Gaga. But I thought Taylor was sexy, too, which surprised me, because she was always sporting knee-length dresses. You’d never find that girl in booty shorts and a leather top.

And I have to say it was a breath of fresh air, because anyone hardly thinks “sexy” when thinking of frilly skirts and tutus. Yes, half-naked is hot, but it isn’t the only way to be hot.

I grew up with Taylor and began taking style cues from her. These days, I hardly wear bodycon. My closet is filled with girly dresses and Keds sneakers and denim onesies.

Now, I’m not saying bodycon isn’t sexy; what it really comes down to is how confident the girl wearing the outfit is. A confident girl could be wearing a paper bag and still be sexy. But there are different kinds of sexy. There’s a time and place for a bodycon dress, and that time and place is definitely not 2 pm on a Saturday during a casual stroll through the park. So most of the time, you’re gonna want to find ways to be cute-sexy, aka low-key hot, aka suggesting a lot without showing too much. Just like my muse Ms. Swift.

So let me walk you through what it means to dress “cute-sexy.”

A-Line Anything

a-line

image:bridesmaid dress melbourne

Rule number one, according to Miz Swift: make a beeline for A-line. If it isn’t super girly, short and flouncy, it isn’t worth buying. A short A-Line is sexy because it’s stylish and shows some leg, but it still leaves a ton to the imagination.

Since you’re showing off a lot of a leg, you want to be conservative on top to even it all out, so wear a shirt that isn’t too cleavage-baring, like this Topshop V-neck. For a nighttime look, just switch out the black on top for white. Complete your princess look with ballerina flats and a simple gold choker, because that’s the perfect amount of regal.

Skin-tight Overalls

The trick to pulling off overalls in a sexy, non-farmer way is to make sure they’re fitted correctly. DO NOT buy a pair of overalls if they’re not skin-tight; if you do, you WILL look like a redneck. The right overalls will hug you in all the right places (read: your ass and hips). Cut-outs on the sides are an added bonus, because unexpected skin is subtly sexy AF, so wear a crop top underneath those ‘ralls. Finish off your farmer-girl chic look with a pair of wedges.

Lawmakers consider bill to revise Maine

2016年03月15日

AUGUSTA — The Legislature’s Judiciary Committee on Monday began considering a two-pronged proposal to revise Maine’s bail code and to give judges discretion on whether to impose some criminal fines that are now mandatory.

Among the proposed bail code changes is one that would require the state – rather than criminal defendants – to pay the fees of bail commissioners, which would cost taxpayers an estimated $1.6 million per year.

The second prong of the proposal would allow judges to decide whether to impose criminal fines that are currently mandatory in three kinds of cases – simple assaults (not including domestic cases), drug offenses and operating a motor vehicle after the driver’s license has been suspended.

The premise for the changes started more than a year ago when Chief Justice Leigh Saufley, head of the state’s court system, said in her annual address to the Legislature that too many people are being jailed in Maine while cases against them are pending.

Saufley, in conjunction with Gov. Paul LePage and legislative leaders, later formed a task force of 36 people to study that problem. The task force included judges, prosecutors, legislators and members of the Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the American Civil Liberties Union of Maine.

Sen. David Burns, a Whiting Republican and co-chairman of the Judiciary Committee, served on the task force and introduced the changes in a bill now before the panel.

Judiciary Committee members Monday first heard public comments on the proposal and then debated the bill, L.D. 1639, late into the afternoon. The committee is scheduled to resume deliberations Tuesday on whether to recommend passage of the bill.

Superior Court Justice Robert Mullen, who headed the task force, testified first at the public hearing, explaining the task force’s work and the proposed changes.

“We had everybody who had a dog in the fight,” Mullen said of the task force.

Having the state pay a bail commissioner’s fee rather than a defendant would ensure that no one would be jailed unnecessarily because he or she is too poor to pay the fee of up to $60, Mullen said.

But Mullen acknowledged that the annual cost of $1.6 million to taxpayers could be prohibitive.

“I think the big obstacle is the price tag,” Mullen said. “But in my mind, that doesn’t make it any less right.”

Other proposed bail code changes would require a judge, not a bail commissioner, to set bail release conditions prohibiting a defendant from possessing alcohol or drugs and for there to be some reason for the prohibition. Another change would require police to have some cause to search a defendant on bail for drugs, alcohol, firearms or other weapons.

On mandatory fines, Mullen said he expects that judges would waive fines only in exceptional cases.

“Some people are just slacking or just not paying, and that’s the type of person I would not think twice in imposing the maximum fine,” Mullen said. “But some people are just having a difficult time for a variety of reasons in paying those fines, and I am just throwing more dirt into this hole that the person’s at the bottom of.”

Attorney General Janet Mills, who also served on the task force, spoke in support of the proposed changes and focused most of her comments on allowing judicial discretion on mandatory fines.

“This is a small safety valve,” Mills said. “This is not a complete revision of mandatory sentencing.”

Mills added that Cumberland County District Attorney Stephanie Anderson, who was unavailable to testify, also served on the task force and voted in favor of granting judges discretion on fines.

Other speakers in support of the changes were Alison Beyea, executive director of the ACLU of Maine; John Pelletier, chairman of the state’s Criminal Law Advisory Commission; and Jamesa Drake, a board member of the Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Avery Day, LePage’s chief legal counsel, spoke in support of the bill in general but expressed concern about waiving mandatory fines and the cost of paying bail commissioners’ fees.

No one spoke in opposition to the bill, but Aroostook County District Attorney Todd Collins wrote a letter of opposition to the committee with a line-by-line analysis of the bill.

Germany Wakes Up to Politics Trump-Style as

2016年03月14日

If you think Donald Trump has some outrageous ideas, wait until you meet Germany’s AfD party.

The Alternative for Germany, to give the party its full name, has shaken up the country’s consensus-driven politics with headline-grabbing policies that include telling Germans to have more children to avoid the need for immigration. Frauke Petry, the AfD’s co-leader, has said that police must “prevent illegal border crossings, using firearms if necessary.”

Like Trump, her rhetoric hasn’t damaged AfD support but rather struck a chord with those disgruntled with the establishment parties, in particular nabbing voters unhappy with Chancellor Angela Merkel’s open-door policy for refugees. The party surged to record support in Sunday’s regional elections, taking seats in all three states that voted and boosting its representation to half of Germany’s 16 state assemblies. The AfD had its strongest showing in Saxony-Anhalt with 24.3 percent, making it the second-biggest party in the former communist eastern state, according to TV projections.

The rise of the AfD in Germany mirrors growing support for populist politicians such as National Front leader Marine Le Pen in France and Trump, who has called for banning Muslims from emigrating to the U.S. Like Trump, Petry spars regularly with the media that follows her every word. One German newspaper even ran a quiz asking readers to attribute statements to Trump or Petry.

‘Fundamental Problems’

“We have fundamental problems in Germany that led to this outcome,” Petry said on broadcaster ARD Sunday to explain the party’s surge. “Now we want to force the other parties into a substantive debate.”

The German political establishment is having none of it, vowing instead to band together to keep the AfD out of government. Petry has responded by saying her party plans to take on an opposition role to push AfD policies in the face of what they see as a cartel of established politicians.

The AfD began in 2013 out of opposition to the euro and taxpayer-funded bailouts of countries such as Greece. Co-founder Bernd Lucke, an economics professor who focused the party on the euro, quit last year after losing a power struggle with rivals including Petry, 40, an East German-born chemist. The AfD failed to win seats in the German parliament in 2013, though it entered the European Parliament the following year. It still wants to dissolve the 19-nation euro area.

Holocaust Guilt

Several senior party members are defectors from Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union who view her as pulling the party to the political left. Petry has urged Germans to have three children to reduce the need for immigration and suggested German policy is driven by Holocaust guilt.

The party wants restrictions on political asylum, stronger enforcement of existing laws -- including deportations of refugees who don’t qualify for asylum -- and demands that the government “protect the national identity,” according to a resolution passed at a party convention in November. Its campaign platform for Baden-Wuerttemberg calls the governing parties “saboteurs of our state and our society” and says the AfD is the voice of the “awakening resistance of the bourgeoisie.”

The AfD result in Saxony-Anhalt is the latest upset in a region that has a tradition of voting for radical groups. Support for the anti-capitalist Left Party peaked at 24.1 percent in 2006, while surveys over the next five years consistently showed about 5 percent or more backing for the far-right National Party of Germany, or NPD. The German People’s Union, or DVU, won seats in the regional assembly in Magdeburg in 1998 after taking 12.9 percent with a nationalist, anti-immigration platform.

Along with the surge in the eastern state, the AfD won double-digit backing in the two western regions that voted Sunday. The party received 15.1 percent support in Baden-Wuerttemberg and 12.4 percent in Rhineland-Palatinate, according to projections. The threshold to receive seats in 5 percent.

“The AfD is now more established and will probably have more staying power than its predecessors,” Holger Schmieding, chief economist at Berenberg Bank, said in a note. But even after doing well in regional protest votes, the party “would remain light years away from any position of influence.”

Ask Natalie: More wedding dilemmas?

2016年03月09日

  Carlos Arranz Pena

By Natalie Bencivenga / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

DEAR NATALIE: My husband and I have been invited to a casual friend’s wedding. The problem is, the wedding is on a Friday afternoon. We would both have to miss half a day’s work. My husband and I both have very recently started new jobs. We do not get paid if we don’t work, and we also don’t want to make a bad impression on our new employers. What should we do? We are leaning toward skipping the wedding and getting to the reception after work when we can. Help! — 2 MEN AND A DILEMMA

Natalie BencivengaDEAR 2 MEN AND A DILEMMA: Call your friend who is getting married and simply explain the situation. Having a wedding on a Friday afternoon will probably make it tough for some guests to attend the whole event because of their work schedules (and I’m sure you and your hubby aren’t the only ones debating what to do). Just tell your friend exactly what you told me and let them know that as soon as you can be there, you will. Even if this means that you come late to the reception, they will know to save a place for you both. Giving them a heads up shows that you are considerate of their feelings and that you have every intention of celebrating with them as soon as you are able. (And don’t forget to bring a gift!)...

  Related:purple bridesmaid dresses australia

Which leads me to Part Two of the “should you or should you not bring gifts to a wedding.” Last week, I received many spirited letters from readers who felt that gifts should not be expected at a wedding and that my advice contributed to a “culture of greed.” So, I contacted the Emily Post Institute to get to the bottom of this.

I talked with Lizzie Post, the president of the Emily Post Institute, and this is what she said:

“Not only is giving a gift the right thing to do, but it is obligatory — whether you attend the wedding or not.”

I also asked her if bringing gifts to the actual wedding was right or wrong, and she said this: “There is nothing wrong at all with bringing gifts or money (in a card) to the wedding, and if you don’t bring a gift, you should send one within three months of the wedding date.”

So, there you have it. As far as the woman who felt hurt about no gifts being given at her son’s wedding? Ms. Post said that she should make her next guest list however she wants, but if they were very close friends, just “let it go.”

I hope this helps readers who were wondering about gift giving at weddings. Not only is it the nice thing to do, but you are expected to do it if you receive an invite.

Natalie’s networking tip of the week: Is there a guest list that you can look at ahead of time to see who will be at the event? If so, check it out and familiarize yourself with some of the people that you want to meet. Whether they are speakers or organizers, they may give you great insights and lead you to other connections you want to make to maximize your time.

4 Crazy-Horrible Wedding Disasters

2016年03月04日

If you’re planning a wedding, chances are your mind went to a billion dark, disastrous places. (What if there’s a hurricane?! What if the venue goes bankrupt?!) Sound like familiar concerns? Remember these two things: (1) That stuff probably won’t happen, and (2) if disaster does strike, it will all work out in the end. See the proof in these debacles.

“Our venue went bankrupt and stole our deposit.”

Related: http://www.sheindressaustralia.com/tea-length-wedding-dresses-au

Our venue closed four months before our wedding amid rumors of bankruptcy. The owner completely fled to evade tax fraud charges! We had already set the date, made a deposit, and sent out invites. The venue’s amazing staff, who were left stranded without jobs, worked for free to compile lists of other venues and vendors willing to offer help and services at reduced prices. We were overwhelmed by all of the support from the hospitality community and ultimately booked a lovely restaurant for our special day. Our wedding went off without a hitch, and now our tale of bad luck is just a funny story we tell about our misadventures in wedding planning.

—Jaime, New York

“Our officiant got lost and never showed up.”

My husband and I were raised Catholic, but we aren't practicing parishioners as adults. So, in order to have the contemporary wedding we wanted, while paying respect to our very religious families, we found a modern Catholic priest willing to perform a Catholic-inspired ceremony in our favorite museum. We thought we found the world's best compromise—except the day of the ceremony, he put the wrong address in his GPS and ended up in south Brooklyn instead of Astoria (not exactly next door, especially with traffic). Fortunately, a few of my friends have officiant licenses. When we realized that the priest wouldn't make it in time, my close pal Whitney stepped up to perform the ceremony. It turned out so amazing and magical in the end that I wouldn’t have changed a thing. I was so happy that a friend was marrying us instead of a stranger. Destiny?

—Naomi, New York

“The flower girl threw up all over her dress.”

Our four-year-old flower girl got so nervous that she puked all over her dress in the bridal trolley on the way to the church. But she still wanted to walk down the aisle! Of course, her dress was covered in puke and we didn’t have time to turn around and get something else for her to wear. (We were already 30 minutes late and everyone waiting at the church started to think I had cold feet.) Long-story short, she ended up walking down the aisle in just her pink glitter Toms shoes, undies and sunglasses. It was an adorable disaster.

“Our florist forgot the flowers.”

First, our florist was 30 minutes late to the church and my groomsmen and I had to assemble everything ourselves. Then, I realized they didn’t even bring the flowers my wife specifically requested for the pews! I was freaking the $%*& out that she’d be so upset when she walked down the aisle, seeing the wrong flowers on every bench. But she wasn’t! In fact, she was so focused on me that she didn’t even notice.

Royal Wedding

2016年03月02日

Iranian artist Rokni Haerizadeh has turned thousands of hand-painted images of the wedding of the United Kingdom’s Prince William and Kate Middleton into a surreal animated film, which he will exhibit this month at Hong Kong’s Yallay Gallery.

Entitled “Reign of Winter,” the film is made of stills downloaded from the Internet that Haerizadeh then painted over with anthropomorphic animals and other strange imagery.

Rokni Haerizadeh Brings a Rotoscoped Royal Wedding to Yallay Gallery

This animation process, called rotoscoping, has been used widely in the creation of everything from Walt Disney’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (1937) to the music video for “Take on Me” (1985), by the Norwegian band A-ha. Haerizadeh, however, claims that he is among the first to use it in a fine-art context, creating what he terms “moving paintings.”

Also see: simple wedding dresses

“A painting is usually received by the viewer and by the critic as a fixed and static object,” Haerizadeh explained. “It’s important for me to add this element of time, to slow down the process and to make that process visible. In this way, the painting unfolds before your eyes and transforms gradually.”

Alongside the film, the exhibition will feature paintings on the subject of the royal wedding, as well as preparatory pages for the video and detailed sequences of the film on individual monitors.

All the pieces share a common trait with Haerizadeh’s larger body of work: a fascination with mass-media events and how the tightly choreographed nature of these events cannot fully mask the innate savagery of humanity. In “Reign of Winter,” this manifests itself in characters that combine animal and human traits. Prince William’s uniform, for example, is transformed with human genitals and horse legs.

The exhibition marks the artist’s first solo gallery show, though it follows two solo museum exhibitions with his frequent collaborators Ramin Haerizadeh and Hesam Rahmanian.
