Joshua Detko’s out-of-character public declaration of love for Zoe Holden was caught on CCTV camera for the couple to keep as a memento.

Zoe, a PhD research scientist from Leicester, was so overwhelmed by the grand proposal in the middle of all the crowds at Leicester Railway Station that she had to sit down.

She says: “After Josh and I had lived together for almost two years, I temporarily moved to London for three months to work at the Government Office for Science.

“One weekend, Josh met me at the station and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

“There was a lot of squealing and jumping, and I was so overwhelmed that we had to sit on the floor for a moment.

“And it was all caught on CCTV which East Midlands Trains sent to us after.”

She adds: “The best thing about the proposal for me was the public declaration – I am quite outgoing, but Josh doesn’t like any kind of public displays of affection.”

Josh, a transport development officer at Leicester City Council, who is from Lancaster, met Zoe in 2010 when they were both at Manchester Met University. Zoe was the president of the Geography Society and Josh was studying geography.

They met at a geography social at the student union bar and got chatting about Josh being from Lancaster.

Zoe had spent a lot of time in Lancaster and Morecambe as a child as a family friend lived there, and had already vowed to marry at Ashton Memorial in Williamson Park, after attending a wedding there when she was just 10-years-old. The pair tied the knot on November 21, followed by a reception at Forrest Hills, Lancaster.

The theme for the wedding was ‘white, gold, maps, glitter and dinosaurs’ and Zoe says, “the wedding was more about fun than decorum”.

The couple, who live in Leicester but hope to move to Lancaster soon, honeymooned in Tenerife.
